and get the right protection and care that you can feel good about.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SKIN HEALTH

The skin is the largest organ of our body. The skin is made up of three main layers: the epidermis, dermis and subcutis. Our skin is a good indicator of our general health and plays a vital role in protecting us from external factors such as the sun’s harmful rays, pollution, and bacteria.

Sun exposure can have a significant impact on our skin health. While the sun provides us with essential Vitamin D, too much exposure to UV rays can lead to premature aging, skin damage, and even skin cancer. That’s why it’s important to take steps to protect our skin from harmful UV rays.

By applying sunscreen regularly, we can significantly reduce the risk of sunburn and other forms of skin damage.

In addition to using sunscreen, there are other steps we can take to protect our skin from sun damage. Wearing protective clothing such as hats and long-sleeved shirts can help to block out harmful UV rays. And avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours (typically between 10 am and 2 pm) can also help to reduce the risk of sun damage.

Take action today and start taking steps to protect your skin!

By following these simple steps, you can help to protect your skin and keep it looking and feeling its best. So take the time to care for your skin, and you’ll be rewarded with healthy, beautiful skin for years to come.

SKIN TYPES

Each skin type has specific characteristics that make it more susceptible to certain types of damage and reactions. Explore the unique needs of the different skin types and the best ways to protect them from sun damage by using the right products.

What is yours?

Normal Skin

Normal skin is considered the most balanced of all the skin types. It has a good balance of oil and moisture which makes it less prone to breakouts or dryness. However, even though normal skin is well-balanced, it still requires proper protection when exposed to the sun. When exposed to UV rays without sunscreen, normal skin can still suffer from sunburns and long-term sun damage like premature aging and increased risk of skin cancer. Therefore, it's important to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days.

Dry Skin

Dry skin lacks natural oils and moisture which makes it prone to flakiness, roughness, and itchiness. When exposed to the sun without adequate protection, dry skin can become even drier as the UV rays strip away what little moisture there is in the epidermis layer of the skin. This can cause redness, irritation, and peeling. To prevent this from happening, using a moisturizing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is recommended.

Oily Skin

Oily skin tends to produce more sebum than normal or dry skin, making it more susceptible to acne breakouts and clogged pores. When oily skin is exposed to the sun without proper protection, it can become even oilier as the heat triggers an overproduction of sebum. This can lead to more breakouts and blackheads. Using a lightweight, non-comedogenic sunscreen with at least SPF 30 can help prevent this issue while also protecting against harmful UV rays.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is characterized by having both oily areas (usually in the T-zone) and dry areas (usually around the cheeks). Depending on which area is exposed to the sun without adequate protection will determine how combination skin reacts. If oily areas are exposed without sunscreen, they may become oilier while dry areas may become drier if they are not properly hydrated with moisturizer. The best for combination skin is to use a lightweight, non-comedogenic sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and to moisturize dry areas before applying sunscreen.

What About Sensitive and Mature Skin?

Sensitive skin as well as hyper-allergic skin needs extra gentle protection as it can easily react negatively to certain chemical ingredients in common sunscreen or after-sun products. Your first choice should be always 100% natural, mineral-based sunscreens, as they are less likely to cause irritation than chemical-based sunscreens. Avoid fragrances and other potential irritants in your products.

Mature skin loses elasticity and tends to be thinner and more delicate over time and is therefore more likely to develop fine lines and wrinkles due to UV exposure. Look for broad-spectrum sunscreens with antioxidants like vitamin C or E, which can help protect against free radical damage and promote collagen production. After-sun products with peptides or retinol can also help boost collagen production and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

"Sun protection doesn’t need to be complicated — it needs to be consistent."

Skin Tones & Tanning Tips

Similar to skin types, we all have different skin tones, and each one reacts differently to the sun. It’s important to remember that no matter what your skin tone is, you deserve to feel confident and protected in the sun. Whether you’re prone to sunburns or hyperpigmentation, there are steps you can take to protect your skin and keep it healthy. By using sunscreen and taking care of your skin after sun exposure, you can enjoy the sun’s warmth and beauty without worrying about damage.
So go ahead, find out your needs, embrace the sunshine and take care of yourself at the same time!

GOOD TO KNOW

No matter if it’s raining, cloudy or sunny – UV rays have a damaging effect on your skin 365 days a year.
Regular check-ups with a dermatologist are crucial to catch any changes in the skin early on, even if you’re diligent about sun protection. After sun exposure, our skin needs a bit of extra love.
Use a hydrating lotion to replenish moisture, and apply a cooling gel with aloe vera or cucumber to soothe sunburn and inflammation and prevents sun related skin aging.

Taking care of your skin after being in the sun is just as important as protecting it from harmful UV rays.
