The original Bandon Dunes links designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd opened in May 1999. The newer Pacific Dunes designed by Tom Doak of Michigan opened July 1. With the completion of the third course, Bandon Trails, designers Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have added a challenging third course. Golf Digest has ranked Bandon Dunes " best new public/resort course in the United States". No. 3 public access course behind Pebble Beach and Pinehurst No.2 ( Golf Magazine ); and No. 2 modern courses in the nation ( Golfweek).
